My Tension paintings create an illusion of depth from one-dimensional to multi-dimensional planes. I refer to this process as “coming in the back door.” I create varied surfaces utilizing rubber bands saturated in talc powder creating undulating monochromatic elevations.
My focus is to test the boundaries of tensile strength to the point of collapse over an extended period of time to determine its unforeseen physical life. The decomposition of material allows for a voluntary transformation without the need for manipulation, which is central to my work.
My Tension sculptures manifest the gravity and force felt through the vortex of each sculpture creating a reverberation from its core. further extruded in these texturized concave works. The rigid linear nature of the tension paintings are now extruded reincarnations traveling into infinity.
